# Booking through ChatGPT and Claude: how it works for restaurants

Guests can book a table right in ChatGPT or Claude when the restaurant uses a reservation system with its own MCP connector: the assistant checks free times, shows the menu and sends a booking request. Booklio.ai has such a connector, requests from assistants go through the same rules as the form on your website, and they’re free for the venue.

## How a guest books through an AI assistant

An AI assistant can’t see into a restaurant’s reservation book on its own. It needs a connector: an interface through which it asks the reservation system for free times and sends it a request. The standard for such connectors is the [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io) (MCP). Booklio has its own MCP server that both Claude and ChatGPT can use.

1. **The guest adds the connector.** They add it to their assistant with one link. The venue has a page for guests explaining how, in Czech, English and German.
2. **They ask in plain language.** For example: “Do you have a table for 4 on Friday at 8 pm?” The assistant checks free times and, if you’re full, offers others, such as 6:30 pm or 9 pm.
3. **The assistant sends the request.** With the guest’s consent it sends a booking request. The guest can also ask about the menu and the venue.
4. **The confirmation arrives as if from the website.** A routine request confirms itself; staff confirm the rest. The guest gets a text or email and can cancel just as easily, through the assistant too.

## The same rules as the form on your website

An assistant won’t offer a time the venue would turn down. In Booklio, requests from assistants follow the same rules as the [booking widget on your website](https://booklio.ai/en/embed):

- free times from real table capacity and which tables can be joined,
- blocks on the whole venue, a space or specific tables,
- minimum notice, online at least 60 minutes ahead,
- online capacity at peak times, with the remaining tables kept for walk-ins,
- auto-confirmation only for requests that meet the rules; last-minute bookings and exceptions are decided by staff.

## Protection against overload and spam

Booking through assistants is a new channel, and the venue needs to stay in control. Booklio therefore watches:

- **Limits.** The number of requests per hour and per contact, with an alert when traffic spikes.
- **A channel switch.** Turn off bookings through assistants in one tap; the website keeps running.
- **Bulk spam rejection.** Clear out fake requests in two taps.
- **The no-show list.** A contact who didn’t show three times is flagged. When management turns on auto-decline, their further requests are declined automatically, from the widget and from AI assistants; this option is ready and off by default.

## An assistant for staff and management too

Claude can also be connected to the admin. Management then asks their assistant what’s waiting for confirmation today, who’s at table 5, or how many guests came and who didn’t show. The assistant finds a booking by the guest’s name and makes a change, such as “close Saturday from 3 to 9 pm”, only with staff approval.

## What it costs

Bookings through guests’ AI assistants are free in Booklio, as are the core and all 9 add-ons. When a guest gives a phone number, the confirmation text costs the venue CZK 3 excl. VAT; email is free.
